Hopping into April

My boys might be all grown up (well past the egg hunting ages now), but there is still something so nostalgic about Easter; something a little bit magic, that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Maybe it is the crisp mornings now being felt here in Dunsborough. Maybe it is the memories of long weekends away camping when I was a kid, or just the excuse of getting friends and family together for a long overdue BBQ on a Sunday arvo.
I am very much looking forward to a quiet few days at home with the family (and it doesn’t matter if we’re not doing the Easter egg hunts anymore, there absolutely WILL be chocolate… everywhere).
I’ve had a pretty humbling start to the year. So, at the moment, I’m just going full-on Teflon mode for things out of my control (letting them slide on by, no need to sweat the small stuff!!) and putting my energy into celebrating the wins, working with my amazing fruit producers, and revelling in the glorious grapes we’re seeing.
I’m really excited about the Vermentino this year – 3 different batches means lots of blending options. All the fruit parcels look fabulous. Pinot from Mt Barker is just kicking off ferment – little hand grenades mean lots of flavour.
I am also going to be doing a new vintage of the Pipsqueak fizz this year. The cooler weather is definitely lending itself to some banging bubbles – so I can’t wait to see how this comes to life.
As I pen this, the 2025 vintage is pretty much done and dusted. It was bright, and bursting – exceptional ripening, full and juicy fruit – top notch.
And while the new vintage whirlwind is very exciting, and easy to get wrapped up in – I cannot forget my 2024 red babies, which are coming into their own and landing this month.
The release of the 2024 Mollyduker Pinot Noir and 2024 Monty Tempranillo is imminent. Keep an eye out for them. A couple of really juicy additions just in time for Autumn. I’m looking forward to enjoying these with some slow cooked lamb shanks, sticky Asian pork loins, and let’s be honest… just by themselves on the back deck (maybe a cheeky cheese and cracker in hand).
Despite the madness of vintage, I am just here taking everything in my stride. All the regular bits and bobs are ticking along.
Hope you are all keeping well. To anyone who needs it, here’s my reminder to slow down, give an extra hug to those you love, and have a good laugh.
Until next time,
Kym
