"Arthur or Martha" Nouveau Grenache
2023 Grenache, Geographe, Western Australia
Early release Nouveau style Grenache
Description
Juicy red and purple berry fruits, subtle hints of cinnamon and nutmeg, bright and fresh with soft chalky tannins. Can be served chilled (optimal around 10℃). Deliciously smashable.
Hand-picked on my birthday early March (what a birthday present!), destemmed and fermented as whole berries in an open fermenter. The fermenter was wrapped and gassed for 4 days to promote carbonic maceration. Once the ferment was active, the cap was gently plunged to avoid extracting too much tannin. Pressed off early to finish ferment in stainless steel. Early bottling to retain those juicy berry characters.
About the name: This wine doesn’t know whether it’s Arthur or Martha! Chilled red, who ever heard of such a thing? It’s delicious slightly chilled, but has enough tannin to hold it’s own if you prefer it at room temperature.
